In the spring,
we installed the Sea Scout from Interphase. Now that the full season
has past, we wanted to give you a report on the Sea Scout and how it worked
for us.
The
Sea Scout is mounted in the thru-hull configuration, and works GREAT!!!
I highly recommend it for fishing and seeing bottom structure.
It took us some time to learn the best way to use the Sea Scout and really
'dial it in', but after finding that the real effective range is about 20 to 40
fathoms ahead, and then dialing in the sensitivity, we were able to no only locate
the fish, but actually hunt for them.
The Sea Scout would let us find the bait fish and schools of albacore,
check the depth they were running, and then set our lines to the right depth.
Even when they were not biting, we could sit on them and wait, and they always
would come up and hit, given time. We found ourselves away from the fleet many
times, but we knew the fish were down there, and we stayed on them and waited.
We out-fished the fleet day after day. I can personally attribute this to the
Sea Scout's ability to let me scan and search, locate, and then wait. Also,
if we got off the fish, we could turn and find them immediately again. This saved
time, and more importantly, fuel.
We would highly recommend the Sea Scout for fishing bait as well as large
schooling fish (like Albacore) and we will not go out again without it! Thank
you for the great product.
Sincerely,
David Greenberger, F.V. Jeanette
We are in the process
of sailing around the world in our 75' ketch, the Ashley St. Mary. Before leaving
Australia we installed one of your Probe forward looking Scanning Sonars
and have used it extensively in the waters around northern Australia and the Indonesian
islands. The charts for these areas are old and unreliable, especially information
about underwater hazards such as reefs and coral heads. Your Probe has
proven to be extremely valuable for safely navigating through these unfamiliar
waters. Many times it has helped us avoid dangerous underwater obstacles, especially
when anchoring. The Probe is a wonderful piece of equipment. It's ability
to look forward beneath the water's surface, is something that I have always wanted.
I feel much safer cruising since the Probe is looking forward for me. The Probe
has operated fault-free since we installed it one year ago.

The
Probe installed last minute and after playing with it I have got to know
it well. It is fantastic for what we are doing. Occasionally we have been in a
situation at night where we've had to move amongst reefs & although nerve racking
the forward looking Probe allows us to do passages in situations we would
normally have to wait out. I am cautious in telling people this because they shouldn't
rely on electronics 100% but as long as it's working & you're familiar with its
screen read out like us, we get away with it. "If people say they don't work,
they don't know how to use them." -

Purchasing
your Probe unit for our boat has made our operations very successful and
saved both man-hours and our budget. We are able to locate, recover and re-use
buoy anchors and counterweight keels which enhances our Nav-Aid Budget. We are
able to cut man-hours on our rescue and recovery operations by finding victims
and property in less time. Your product has been a great enhancement in helping
us do what we do best, assisting the public and helping to make our lake public
safe. -

Please write, fax, or email your experience with the
new forward scanning sonar from Interphase. We are recieving many comments
from people who have avoided running aground, caught more and bigger fish, found
the harbor entrance, and even found bodies for search and rescue! We'd love to
hear from you...
