C-MAP
Introduces MAX ™ MAX will let navigators see Flashing NavAids on chart plotter displays exactly as they appear in real time. Buoys will flash on the display in the same sequence and color as they do on the water, so boaters can cross-reference what they see out the pilot house window with what appears on the electronic charts. Sailors, cruisers and fishermen will find this dynamic feature useful when navigating in a strange channel or picking their way around dangerous marked reefs and points at night or in limited visibility conditions. MAX also features Perspective View, a function that enhances the electronic chart data to provide a “bird’s eye view” of the chart -- giving boaters a different perspective and bringing more situational awareness to the helm. MAX will arm boaters with another very important piece of information: Currents. Color-coded Arrows or Vectors on the chart plotter display give navigators a clear graphic indication of velocity/speed and direction of the current. This information will be highly valuable to anglers when drifting offshore or setting up on a wreck. And all boaters will benefit from this knowledge as they navigate or around shoals, bars and channel mouths “The first time a boater sees MAX on a chart plotter, his eyes will open up to a new world of possibilities,” said Ken Cirillo, vice president/general manager of C-MAP/USA. “Features such as animated current graphics, live NavAids and multi-colored land elevation and depth contours empower boaters with a keen sense of their surroundings. MAX, the Ultimate Navigator, will help make any boater a better navigator,” Cirillo added. The introduction of MAX will expand C-MAP’s long-standing tradition of bringing Value Added Data to boaters by putting more information at their fingertips. Here are just a few of the Value Added Data categories being added to MAX: Multimedia Images. This C-MAP exclusive allows navigators to view on the chart plotter display color aerial photographs and/or diagrams of selected marinas and harbor entrances to get an overview of the entire marina layout and establish visual points of reference. This will be extremely useful to excursion sailors, offshore fishermen or long-range cruisers who frequently journey to new places. C-Marina Charts with high-resolution detail right down to the individual slips. More than 1,000 will be included in the 2005 release. Advanced Port Info with graphic locations of important services and improved coastal and road data along with facilities information and Points of Interest (POIs) to include restaurants, shops, pharmacies and other shores side services near marinas. “MAX will take chart plotter performance to a whole new level,” said Cirillo. “These dramatic improvements to marine cartography are bringing what navigators see on the display closer and closer to real life. And we’re putting more useful information into the hands of skippers where they need it most -- in coastal areas, marinas and other high-traffic regions. And since MAX is vector based, navigators can select the chart display and information that's important to them in any situation,” added Cirillo. Even though MAX is the most advanced recreational marine charting system available, its advantages will be available to a wide spectrum of boaters. Owners of a variety of GPS navigators, from entry-level compact LCD GPS/chart plotters to high-end 15-inch color machines, will be able to enjoy exciting new features and capabilities. MAX will be available to boaters in 2005 with larger, more affordable coverage areas. New MAX Wide C-cards (with coverage area equal to former NT+ SuperWides) will retail for $199; MAX MegaWides will offer even greater coverage for $299. Most new C-MAP compatible chart plotters will be powered by MAX; upgrades will be available for many existing models.
